Kevara are a dance band specialising in Klezmer (Jewish wedding music), gypsy and other European styles of music. We came together in 2009 and have been increasing our repertoire of tunes and dances since then, while performing for public dances and private functions. Our starting point was klezmer - Eastern European Jewish music, which had a strong revival in America in the early 20th century, and again in the 1960s and 70s. Added to this, we have tunes and dances from the Balkans, Rumania, and other far-flung parts of the continent. The wild and expressive music from these places perfectly complements the dances that accompany the tunes. We also play music for free-form dancing, and for listening.
Our line-up is:
Pam Hayes, our caller, who knows a wide range of dances from around Europe.
Si Paull on drums and percussion.
Howard Harrison on piano, guitar and flute.
Singer Ami Lee sings in
Yiddish, Hebrew and Ladino.
Martin Henning on bass.
                                                       Joel Segal on violin.
Tim Heming on clarinet and guitar.
